The Québec 511 telephone service, available 24/7, gives you free and easy access, from anywhere in Québec, to all the information you need to plan safe trips and efficiently on the entire Québec road network. Designed by the ministère des Transports du Québec, this service is an intermodal portal that combines several transportation service providers, such as Société des traversiers du Québec (STQ) and the Canada Border Services Agency. The transportation telephone portal is bound to expand as future partnerships are established.

All you have to do is call 511 on any phone to access information almost in real time on the road network conditions system, report an incident, obtain information on any subject related to the mission of the ministère des Transports du Québec (laws, regulations, policies, programs administered by the MTQ), or make a comment or a complaint.

The Québec 511 telephone service integrates a cutting edge technology that allows standardization of the information provided. The automated Text-to-Speech transfer system makes it possible to ensure that the information consulted on the MTQ website is the same information disseminated via the telephone system.

This service’s simple and user-friendly approach works by voice recognition but also allows users to request information by using a telephone keypad. This functionality lets users with elocution or other difficulties consult Québec 511 without any problem.

When you access the Québec 511 line, you are offered three options:

  1. find out the road network conditions,
  2. report an incident and obtain general information,
  3. make a comment or a complaint.

The Road Network Conditions option contains all the information regarding the condition of the highway system under the responsibility of the ministère des Transports, such as:

  • major events in progress on the road network resulting in significant obstacles (accidents, floods, major congestion, etc.);
  • winter road conditions (visibility and condition of the road surface);
  • main Roadwork in progress (nature, hindrances, schedules, duration);
  • waiting time at border crossings (passenger and commercial vehicles);
  • availability of ferry services and their schedules.

This option lets you make a request regarding a trip between two cities, by highway (route) or freeway (autoroute) number, or regarding a specific access, such as a bridge, a border crossing or a ferry. In the case of a request regarding a given route, the automated system gives you an estimate of the distance to travel.

By calling 511, you can also select the Reporting Incidents on the Road Network option any time to report a problem or an accident on the road network under the responsibility of the ministère des Transports.

The General Information and Complaints option lets you reach one of our representatives during office hours, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday, for any request for information on laws, regulations, policies or programs administered by the MTQ or to comment on the Québec 511 service.
